Why Mid Atlantic Ballet?

Our Focus on Classical Ballet

We have a 20 year tradition at MAB of classical ballet instruction that focuses on ballet as the foundation for all styles of dance.

Our artistic director Patrick Korstange and his staff are all highly trained and active dancers in our community. Our instructors promote dancers upon their demonstrated ability and maturity level.

Our Affordability

A key advantage of MAB for our parents is the low cost of supplying their child with the basics needed for dance class. Parents only need to buy, tights, leotard and ballet shoes for their children. We offer these items for sale new or gently used in our studio. MAB provides, with the help of our talented wardrobe department, the costuming required for performances.

Compared to schools that focus on competitive dance, we are significantly more affordable.  We do not have the added costs associated with competitions and dance conventions, such as new costumes, registration fees, and travel and lodging expenses.

Our Location

MAB is conveniently located near downtown Newark, I-95, and shopping.

Our location is easily accessible and provides plenty of free parking.  There are restaurants and shops nearby for parents to visit while their dancer is in class or rehearsal.

Our Performances

Instead of recitals, we give our dancers the opportunity of performing in full-length ballets.  We perform two full-length ballet performances at Mitchell Hall on the University of Delaware campus, and in several community events throughout the year.

Our ballets feature original choreography by our Artistic Director and his staff.

Our Company dancers also have the opportunity to choreograph for the younger students at our year end showcase performance.

Once dancers are promoted to the trainee program they are eligible for all MAB performances.  All levels of the ballet are able to participate in our 'Inside the Dancers' Studio' in June.

Our Community

Our dancers form a tight community of friends. Together at every level, they develop skills, grow in ability and prepare to perform. MAB encourages our students to respect each other's abilities and talents and build each other's confidence to perform in front of the public. Our younger students look up to the older dancers and aspire to be the Sugar Plum Fairy or the Nutcracker Prince.

We also have very active family and member participation in all of our programs, our performances and operations.

Outside of our studio, Mid-Atlantic ballet performs at outreach events for local churches, schools and hospitals. We bring the artistry of ballet, and the message of fitness through dance, to the greater Newark community.
